A Day in KC- at Hawthorne Plaza

It may seem like I am biased towards Kansas City since I was born and raised here, but I truly think KC is one of the best cities to live in. Despite winter (I hate cold weather with a passion), KC has so much to offer for all ages and interests!

Since moving back to KC from the Lawrence area in 2020, I have made it my mission to explore our city by eating, drinking, and shopping my way through! If you are new around here, I have a “KC Things” highlight on my instagram page if you want to check out some amazing local spots!

Hawthorne Plaza, located in Overland Park, KS on 119th and Roe, has so much to offer, you can easily make a day of it with eating, shopping, and pampering all from locally owned businesses!

When I think of my perfect day, it always includes brunch, pampering of some sort, and shopping! So I thought I would take you along to some of my favorite businesses in Hawthorne Plaza!

First stop: Brunch at Urban Egg. To be honest, my first time eating at Urban Egg was this past fall, and I couldn’t believe it had been my first time. I am obsessed. So much so that I keep making brunch dates there with family and friends, because everything I’ve ever had is so delicious. They are known for their fresh, organic, award-winning breakfast and lunch, and every single member of their staff has been so kind and knowledgeable about their menu.  I’ve taken Noah there a few times now and I just happened to get the same waitress each time, so it’s been fun that she has watched Noah grow the last few months.

After your heart and stomach is full from brunch, you can walk down the sidewalk to PAINT Nail Bar for a mani/pedi. First off, this is one of the cutest nail salons I’ve ever seen. The salon has modern, elegant decor and a boutique type feel with local goods and products for sale. So, you can shop for cute clothes and accessories while waiting for your appointment! Secondly, I was very impressed that this salon is fume-free. I had never experienced anything like it! They care about the health and integrity of your nails so they use toxic-free products (that’s why it doesn’t smell like a typical nail salon!) I can’t wait to go back and take Emmie with me!

Now that you’ve gotten some pampering and still have a happy and full stomach, mosey on down the sidewalk for some shopping! Two of my favorite stores are right next to each other. EB&Co and Cuorebella.

EB&Co is full of the cutest accessories to help you feel unique, confident and stylish. I have been to all three locations (Hawthorne Plaza, Brookside, and the Plaza) and I think more than half of my jewelry has officially become EB&Co jewelry. And if you’ve followed me on Instagram for any time at all, you’ve seen me rave about them. I’ve had the privilege of meeting the owner, Emily, and her passion and heart for her business and our city is evident through everything she does!

Cuorebella- If this darling shop doesn’t win your heart, then the owners sure will! I had the pleasure of meeting this husband and wife team,Trish & Vernon, and they welcomed me with the most genuine hearts into their store. Cuorebella is an uncommon shop with exceptional items for gifts, home and stationery, including everything from hostess gifts and décor, original paintings from local artists, to personalized stationery and invitation suites. I picked up some gifts for my family for Christmas, and every detail down to the gift wrap is thoughtfully curated.

As you can tell, I love the businesses at Hawthorne Plaza, and I only listed a few of them! Like I said earlier, you can easily spend a whole day walking from one end to the other- eating, drinking, shopping, and pampering your way through each local business. If you’ve been to any of these shops or others located in Hawthorne Plaza, I’d love to hear your experience!
